STEPS FOR CAREER & TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONAL CERTIFICATION
New CTE teachers must complete the certification process through Temple University.
The first step is to complete the CTE Program Registration application. Click here to access the application. Please remember to keep your log-in information handy for next time.

Submit clearances to Temple Online
State Police, Child Abuse, FBI Fingerprints & Tuberculosis Test must be submitted in jpeg or pdf format. This cannot be done until you have completed Step 1 and your account has been created. For complete instructions on how to submit these clearances, click here.
Attend a New Teacher Orientation (NTO)
New Teacher Orientation is held during the spring semester. It will involve bi-monthly, after school, Zoom sessions. New CTE teachers who have registered for Temple will receive an email once registration has opened for the Spring semester.
Complete the Occupational Competency Assessment (OCA)
Once you have completed the CTE Program Registration application (step 1), you will receive directions and a link for the OCA application. There are monthly Zoom information sessions to help candidates complete this application. For complete information on the OCA, click here.
During the first year, new CTE teachers work under an Emergency Certification.
While working under an Emergency Certification, you must complete the following prior to July 31st.
- Complete Onboarding Steps to Temple's CTE Program.
- Successfully complete OCA exams or credential review.
- Apply for Intern Certification through Teacher Information Management Systems (TIMS).

The Career & Technical Intern Certification is valid for three years. While working under this certificate, you must complete the following:
1. Complete required Temple coursework. Undergraduate Blueprint
Graduate Blueprint
2. Pass Reading and Writing Praxis exams (for undergraduate only)
3. Complete the Intermediate Performance Assessment (IPA) and develop a digital professional portfolio.
4. Apply for Career & Technical Instructional Level 1 Certification through TIMS.

All Career & Technical Instructional Level 1 Certifications are valid for 8 years. While working under this certificate, you must complete the following.
1. Complete required Temple coursework.
Undergraduate Blueprint
Graduate Blueprint
2. Complete Senior Performance Assessment
3. Pass Math Praxis exam or complete PDE approved math course/s
4. Complete at least three years of teaching, earning a Satisfactory rating.
5. Apply for Career & Technical Level II Certification through TIMS. This certificate is valid for 99 years.
